Finding a true black is challenging, and creating a rich full-bodied black is even more challenging.  At American Paint Company we’ve worked hard to find a perfect shade of black and we think we’ve nailed it with Cannonball! Here are a few samples of painted pieces from our retailers.

Cannonball - Karina Mackoul

Cannonball was used on a vintage frame and lightly distressed to reveal its original wooden base.

The Marketplace on Main used American Paint Company Cannonball and Black Glaze to paint the top of a wonderful carved dresser.  The body of the dresser was painted with APC’s Dollar Bill and finished with Top Coat mixed with Pewter Mica, and another layer of Black Glaze, Pewter Mica and Top Coat.  To make this piece more elegant and substantial, bun feet were added to the base.  Love it!

The Willow Branch  painted a coffee table using Cannonball, and projected an image on the tabletop, painting the design with Gun Powder for a subtle contrast.  Also painted in Cannonball and Gun Powder is this beautiful Lawyers bookcase.

Lastly, The Willow Branch painted a vintage dresser in Cannonball with Clear and Dark Wax, wanting to make it even more special, they decoupaged an enlarged photo of their son, shown at Alaska’s Healing Hearts Bear Camp for wounded warriors. He harvested this 6’5″ big boy with his bow.  This is quite the bear!  And we thank you for your service!

The Vintage Dames in Harrisburg, PA, painted a dresser with American Paint Company Fireworks Red and Cannonball  on the trim and base.  The original gold hardware was used on the drawer fronts, it’s sweet & looks a bit like Santa’s belly, we love this piece!

Hello. I just bought the cannonball paint and painted my piano with it. Only did one coat with it. But it looks very grey – not black 🙁 Would second coat and black glaze bring out the black? Or could it be that i did not stir the paint well enough?

It is possible the paint was not stirred completely to incorporate the pigment throughly, Cannonball is a dark rich black paint color and you may want to use an additional coat of paint to achieve the depth of color you are looking for, or you can use APC’s Black Glaze to give your piece more depth and color. You can also try using Dark Wax to add more color to your piece as well. Good luck and we hope you are happy with your results and your piano will be fabulous!
